RESiNMAG.COM: When did you decide to create living the dream?
SCOTTiE SOMERS: The idea to create the Living The Dream Foundation came to Me shortly after My 40th Birthday…† I have lived a Super Fun Life, blessed with Great Opportunities, Family and Friends; it was a "No-Brainer" for Me to want to share the Living The Dream "Gold Key" with others so that they too could live a Fruitful Life regardless of their afflictions…
RESiNMAG.COM: Being diagnosed terminal at such a young age must have been difficult, what has enabled you to remain so positive throughout your life?
SCOTTiE SOMERS: Being positive starts with a Good Foundation; I was Blessed to have a Mother, Family and Friends that were so strong… The strive for "normalcy" has enabled Me to Live out the Life I desire and believe I’m on equal playing field to achieve… Hardship builds Character, and it also makes You feel fortunate for All that You have, rather than focus on what You don’t have… I have only ever Lived One Life, and that’s been a Life stamped terminal from the day I was born… "Does a blind Man wish to see a beautiful sky of blue, or rather, choose a different color sky for each day of the Week." ~Scottie Somers
RESiNMAG.COM: What plans do you have for living the dream in 2010?
SCOTTiE SOMERS: 2010 will be the Year that :LTD)( establishes a solid foundation/home to build our Nation upon… This picture will most likely take place within the Hurley Company’s fortress; I’m in talks with Bob Hurley, Roger Wyett and Chance King (all Hurley Execs) right now in painting what a Living The Dream Foundation should look like inside the walls of Hurley… Pretty Exciting Stuff!! :-)
RESiNMAG.COM: Was there a particular moment or event that occurred when you decided to create living the dream?
SCOTTiE SOMERS: Yes, as previously stated, it overwhelmingly presented itself to me after I hit the 40 years old plateau… I knew at that moment that I wanted to give back to a Life that’s been So Beautiful and Fruitful to Me, helping All Children afflicted with terminal disease for the Rest of My Life… They too deserve a Life of Living The Dream regardless of where they’re at in their journey’s in Life; it’s never to late to start Living The Dream!!!
RESiNMAG.COM: You took up playing bass and formed a band with your best friend in your late 20’s, what would you like to share about that time in your life?
SCOTTiE SOMERS: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…haha (kidding) That was a Very Special time for Me that I’ll Cherish for the rest of My Life… It was only made more Special because I was able to share it with My Life-Long Childhood Friend Dennis Hill… Dennis (Boo Boo) and I formed Lefty, got signed by Interscope Records and traveled the Country and abroad playing for and meeting tons of Amazing Friends and Fans along the way… It was thru Lefty that I met Bob Hurley, a Man that soon afterward would change My Life, ultimately giving Me the microphone to speak from and the stage to stand on to Help Our Children in Need… Thank You Bobby!! I Love You…
RESiNMAG.COM: Where can people go to learn more and become a part of living the dream?
SCOTTiE SOMERS: We offer up an open invitation to any and all that want to become One with our :LTD)( Revolution… We Are Family… We Are One… We Are LIVING THE DREAM... Please visit the following Living The Dream Foundation sites: www.livingthedreamfoundation.org www.myspace.com/livingthedream www.facebook.com/livingthedreamfoundation www.twitter.com/LTDtweets and of course, please go visit www.hurley.com who has been the Back-Bone of this Love Movement, supporting :LTD)( Every Step of the Way… Thank You Hurley!!! Special Thank You to Bob Hurley and Roger Wyett for Believing in Me and Living The Dream… Can you tell us a little bit about your work with CHOC and why you chose CHOC for events etc.? CHOC was an easy choice for Me for many different reasons, mainly, but not exclusively because I was a patient of CHOC Doctors for approx. 18 Years… Furthermore, they’re an innovative Hospital that stays on the cutting edge of technology, providing the highest quality of care in the Nation to their patients, as well as being in My own backyard… As a Company, or any type of business/band knows, You should always take care of Your "Back-Yard" first and foremost before going out and conquering the rest of the World… I’m Honored and feel Privileged to be able to share Our Story of Love with Your readers… We Hope that this is the 1st of Many interviews between: LTD)(and ResinMag. to keep in touch and grow together as One with All of You… Thank You for this Golden Opportunity… Love and Respect Always… Scottie Hurley Somers "LIVING THE DREAM" Living The Dream Foundation’s Mission Statement: "We make dreams come true for children with life-threatening afflictions while enriching their lives with the positive message of Living The Dream." A Scottie Somers quote:
"Death does not scare me,
for I have witnessed and felt
great pain. Not Living The
Dream scares me, for a life
not sharing and caring is a
life wasted in vain."
