RESiNMAG.COM: How old were you when you knew that you had an artistic talent?

JK: I have always enjoyed drawing and painting.  My work has improved over the years through experience and technique.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: When did you sell your first piece?

JK: I sold my first piece in 1998 at 'Sol Grill' in Newport beach for $300. The idea that a person I had never met paid money for one of my paintings was inspiring. The first sale gave me the confidence to market my artwork to galleries and clients.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What was it of?

JK: New York harbor. Pre-911'. The painting had a sailboat with red white and blue sails exiting New York Harbor.  The Statue of Liberty onthe left and the World Trade Center on the right..

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Do you have any schooling?

JK: I got mad schooling Yo'.  No really, I studied art in high school, received bachelors degree from University of Arizona in 1998. Then later attended Laguna school of art and design in 2002.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What is your favorite subject to paint if any?

JK: The ocean. That's why I’m Chillin’ in Kauai right now.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Do you have a favorite piece?

JK: The big murals. They are backbreaking andchallenging but can be very impressive in the right setting.  I have completed 10 ceiling murals for residential and commercial clients. 

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What are some short term career goals?

JK: Branding my artwork through different channels

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What or who inspires you?

JK: There are a lot of great artists out there.  I think Resin Mag is a great forum for up and coming artists to promote thier artistic projects. So that's cool

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What are your long term goals as an artist?

JK: Show up and blow up

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What are you working on right now?

JK: Mural in Princeville on Kauai as well as some local fine art. Using house paint, paint pens, wood and resin.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Do you have any wise word for any youngsters who would like to pursue a career in painting?

JK: You should have a strong foundation in drawing with a pencil before you get crazy with the oil paints.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Any major regrets?

JK: Not being the guy who invented Facebook

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Have you ever had your own studio?

JK: Yes, I have had a few commercial studios and galleries.  My new location is in San Clemente on El Camino and Presidio

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What is the most expensive piece you’ve ever sold?

JK: $10000000
